Digital tale spinner and game maker Telltale Games and Minecraft developer Mojang today announced that Minecraft will be getting a Telltale treatment in Minecraft: Story Mode – A Telltale Games Series, now in development and set to premiere in 2015.
Minecraft: Story Mode will be an all-new narrative-driven, episodic game series, developed by Telltale in collaboration with Mojang and members of the Minecraft community. It will be set in the world of Minecraft and introduce new characters and themes familiar to Minecraft players, but it will be an entirely original Minecraft experience.
On a personal note, I’m dying to see how this goes over with the likes of my Minecraft-loving sons (ages 9 and 11). (Hopefully I’ll be able to see some of this up close at E3 2015.)
Obligatory press release quote:
Partnering with Mojang is a dream come true for us as game makers and as storytellers.Minecraft is a world of infinite possibility and imagination. Working with the Mojang team on our own unique, story-driven interpretation of their fascinating universe is a tremendous honor. We simply cannot wait for fans across the world to take off with us on this new adventure.

Minecraft: Story Mode will be a standalone product and available to download in 2015 on Xbox consoles, PlayStation consoles, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android-based devices. ESRB rating pending.
